Scary developments

As you can see, I'm more than a day behind again. Yesterday I didn't write at all because I felt like taking a break, and did some drawing instead. Today, I felt extraordinarily burnt out, and couldn't do anything much at all.
Over the weekend, I did some random character doodles and came across one that I felt would be useful for Anthropometry. At that point in time I knew I was approaching a part where I had no clue what I was going to do, which is a worrying notion to be sure, when writing to a deadline.
But drawing the character really did a lot of things that helped, which is why I don't mind being behind again for now. I simply threw random clothes and attributes on the poor guy until I decided "yep, he'll be dressed like that", then suddenly the rationale behind his clothing came into being, and from that his raison d'être. I made him scruffy, then eye-wrinkles made him just plain old and suddenly his role in an entire section of the plot had been decided for him.
So with that, meet Jack:

I won't post the first ever sketch I did which was basically him as a mannequin. I will say that Jack is a bit of a plastic name, but this doesn't actually matter. He's an ageing medic who purports to provide neutral treatment to soldiers wounded in the course of action and refugees. He has much opportunity to do this because the planet he lives on exists in a state of anarchy, and thus most of it is engaged in some kind of warfare. Furthermore, such civil war has little bearing on the laws of the rest of the system and vice-versa, and he has no way of leaving the planet that he could pursue.
The main point of Jack himself, I decided, was that now that he's in the twilight of his life, he has taken to contemplating what he's done with himself. He also serves as a companion to another character (

I'm pleasantly surprised that this distraction yielded a useful result. Useful insofar as NaNoWriMo is something worth pursuing, heh.
I have a driving test in the morning. That's the scary development.
